Samsung is reportedly preparing to introduce a new premium tier to its foldable smartphone lineup, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra expected to bring significant improvements to battery capacity and charging speeds.
The Ultra model is expected to launch alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, marking a possible shift to a two-tier flagship foldable strategy for Samsung.
According to early reports cited by SamMobile, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could feature a 5,000mAh battery, up from the 4,400mAh unit in the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The reported 600mAh increase could improve battery endurance, particularly as Samsung continues to balance battery capacity with the slim design and folding mechanism of its flagship foldables.
The current Fold series has generally offered adequate battery life, but endurance has remained an area where users have sought improvement. A 5,000mAh battery could bring the Ultra closer to the all-day battery performance expected from a premium smartphone.
Charging is also reportedly set for a significant upgrade.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is tipped to support 45W fast charging, compared with the 25W charging supported by Samsung’s current foldable models.
The upgrade would bring Samsung’s premium foldable closer to the charging capabilities of its conventional flagship smartphones, including the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Samsung has not yet officially confirmed the specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, meaning the reported battery and charging figures could still change before launch.
If confirmed, however, the upgrades would address two of the key areas where Samsung’s foldable phones have faced criticism.
